"body": "
Sometimes STRUGGLES are exactly what we need!
\n\n
A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared. He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and it could go no further. So the man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily. But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings. The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would contract in time. Neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It never was able to fly.
\n\n
What the man, in his kindness and haste, did not understand: The restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening was the Creator's way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.
\n\n
Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our lives. If our Creator allowed us to go through our lives without any obstacles, it would cripple us. We would not be as strong as what we could have been. We could never fly!
\n\n
I asked for Strength.......And the Creator gave me difficulties to make me strong.
\nI asked for Wisdom.......And the Creator gave me Problems to solve.
\nI asked for Prosperity....And the Creator gave me Brain and Brawn to work.
\nI asked for Courage.......And the Creator gave me Danger to overcome.
\nI asked for Love............And the Creator gave me Troubled people to help.
\nI asked for Favors.........And the Creator gave me Opportunities.
\nI received nothing I wanted ......I received everything I needed!
\n",

Why?
\n\n
Answer:
\n\n
We do so because we always need to be in giving mode.
\n\n
A Story Once just before Pesach someone arrived at the house of Rabbi Josef-Baer from Brisk, to ask a legal question:
\n\n
The Questioner: Teach me, Rabbi; can one say Kiddush on Pesach over four cups of milk?
\n\n
The Rabbi: Pray tell, are you perhaps ill?
\n\n
The Questioner: No! Thank God, I’m physically well, but (he added in a low voice) wine is a little expensive for me this year.
\n\n
The Rabbi to his wife, the Rebbetzin: Give that man 25 rubles for four cups of wine.
\n\n
The Questioner: But, Rabbi, I came to ask a question not to request a handout, God forbid.
\n\n
The Rabbi: This is only a loan until God blesses you with greater prosperity.
\n\n
The Narrator: After the man had taken the money and gone, the rebbetzin raised a question.
\n\n
The Rebbetzin: Why did you have to give him 25 rubles? Four cups of wine cannot cost more than two or three rubles.
\n\n
The Rabbi: You heard his question. He intended to drink four cups of milk at the seder. Surely if he had the funds to eat meat at a complete seder then he could not have drunk milk with his meat meal. I read between the lines of his request and realized that he needed money for all the seder expenses.
\n",

This is to be done in honor of our Lord and of Christendom, so that God might see that we are Christians, and do not condone or knowingly tolerate such public lying, cursing, and blaspheming of his Son and of his Christians. For whatever we tolerated in the past unknowingly and I myself was unaware of it will be pardoned by God. But if we, now that we are informed, were to protect and shield such a house for the Jews, existing right before our very nose, in which they lie about, blaspheme, curse, vilify, and defame Christ and us (as was heard above), it would be the same as if we were doing all this and even worse ourselves, as we very well know.
\n\n
Did Anne Frank really exist?
\n\n
In 1958, at a performance of The Diary of Anne Frank in Vienna, Simon Wiesenthal was challenged by a group of protesters who asserted that Anne Frank had never existed, and who challenged Wiesenthal to prove her existence by finding the man who had arrested her. Wiesenthal indeed began searching for Karl Silberbauer and found him in 1963. When interviewed, Silberbauer admitted his role, and identified Anne Frank from a photograph as one of the people arrested. Silberbauer provided a full account of events, even recalling emptying a briefcase full of papers onto the floor. His statement corroborated the version of events that had previously been presented by witnesses such as Otto Frank.
\n\n
Opponents of the diary continued to express the view that it was not written by a teen, but was a hoax, with Otto Frank being accused of fraud.
\n\n
American anti semitism 2016/2017
\n\n
Jews across the United States are increasingly alarmed at the rise in anti-Semitic incidents across the country.
\n\n
In December, the New York City Police Department noted a 115% increase in bias crimes in the previous month, with Jews the target of 24 out of 43 incidents in that period. On February 27, 2017, for the fifth time in recent weeks, bomb threats roiled over 100 JCCs and Jewish schools across the country, forcing students, staff, elderly members and young babies to evacuate.
\n\n
A bullet was fired through the window of a Hebrew school classroom in Indiana. Jewish cemeteries have been vandalized in St. Louis, Philadelphia, and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Swastikas have been carved into schools, libraries, and even inside the Illinois Holocaust Museum.
\n\n
Here's what a typical bomb threat sounds like:
\n\n
“It’s a C-4 bomb with a lot of shrapnel, surrounded by a bag… In a short time, a large number of Jews are going to be slaughtered. "body": "
Explanation of Symbols
\n\n
KARPAS
\n\n
Karpas is a vegetable (other than bitter herbs) such as celery, parsley, or boiled potato. It must be a vegetable on which we make the blessing, Borei Pri Ha'Adamah. Passover is the Spring festival where we celebrate the birth of our nation ― and these vegetables are a symbol of rebirth and rejuvenation.
\n\n
MARROR & CHAZERET
\n\n
These are the bitter herbs which symbolize the lot of the Hebrew slaves whose lives were embittered by the hard labor. Many people use horseradish for Marror and Romaine lettuce for Chazeret.
\n\n
CHAROSET
\n\n
Charoset reminds us of the hard Jewish labor performed with bricks and mortar. Charoset is a pasty mixture of nuts, dates, apples, wine and cinnamon. The Talmud says this serves as an \"antiseptic\" to dilute the harsh effects of the Marror.
\n\n
ZERO'AH
\n\n
During the times of the Temple in Jerusalem, the Korbon Pesach (Pascal Lamb) was brought to the Temple on the eve of Passover. It was roasted, and was the last thing eaten at the Seder meal. To commemorate this offering, we place a roasted chicken bone with a little meat remaining.
\n\n
In Temple times, every Jew was \"registered\" to eat the Korbon Pesach with his particular group. The Talmud says that the bigger the group, the better. This is a source for having large Seder gatherings!
\n\n
BEITZAH
\n\n
A second offering, called the Chagigah, was brought to the Temple and eaten as the main course of the Seder meal. Today, instead of a second piece of meat, we use a roasted egg ― which is traditionally a symbol of mourning ― to remind us of the destruction of the Temple.
\n",

"body": "
Why Karpas?
\n\n
A vegetable is similar to the Jews in Egypt. A vegetables starts off in the dirt and eventually sprouts out of the ground. The Jews as a nation started off in slavery but from there became a strong and independent Nation. Sometimes we need tough starts in order to reach our Potential.
\n\n
What can we further learn?
\n\n
When we analyze the word Karpas and break it down to its four component parts ― its four letters of kaf, reish, pehand samech, ― we discover an encoded message of four words which teaches a basic lesson about how to develop our capacity for giving.
\n\n
Ka-Kaf- Palm of hand
\n\n
R-Reish- One who is impoverished
\n\n
Pa-Peh- Mouth
\n\n
S-Samech-To support
\n\n
The first letter of Karpas means the palm of the hand. The second letter means a poor person. When taken together these two letter/words speak of a benevolent hand opened for the needy.
\n\n
But what if you are a person of limited means, with precious little to give? Look at the second half of the word Karpas. The letter peh means mouth, while the final letter samech means to support. True, you may not be capable of giving in the material sense, but you can always give with your words. Words of kindness and concern. Words of empathy and understanding. Words that can lift an impoverished soul and provide a means of support where nothing else will do.
\n\n
We dip the Karpas in saltwater. Saltwater recalls the bitter tears shed in Egypt. But there is more. The Jewish people, though awash in the tears of bondage, were able to preserve their ability to give. Rather than succumb to the morass of self-pity, they were able to maintain their dignity through giving.
\n\n
Rabbi Shimon Apisdorf
\n\n
IDEAS TO PONDER AND DISCUSS
\n\n
\n\t
How does giving make me a better person.
\n\t
List a few things you would like to do to be a better giver.
\n
\n",

He notes the one difference that Jews didn’t do that Nazis did.
\n\n
\"Wiesenthal had seen many people go to their deaths Most were afraid; some were so terrified that they had to be supported by others. Some prayed; some cried. But they had never begged for their lives\".
\n\n
Rabbi Yosef Wallis, director of Arachim of Israel, talks to Project Witness about his father, Judah Wallis, who was born and raised in Pavenitz, Poland.
\n\n
While he was in Dachau, a Jew who was being taken to his death suddenly flung a small bag at my father, Judah Wallis. He caught it, thinking it might contain a piece of bread. Upon opening it, however, he was disturbed to discover a pair of tefillin . Judah was very frightened because he knew that were he to be caught carrying tefillin , he would be put to death instantly. So he hid the tefillin under his shirt and headed for his bunkhouse.
\n\n
In the morning, just before the appel [roll call], while still in his bunkhouse, he put on the tefillin . Unexpectedly, a German officer appeared. He ordered him to remove the tefillin , noted the number on Judah’s arm.
\n\n
At the appel , in front of thousands of silent Jews, the officer called out Judah’s number and he had no choice but to step forward. The German officer waved the tefillin in the air and said, \"Dog! I sentence you to death by public hanging for wearing these.\"
\n\n
Judah was placed on a stool and a noose was placed around his neck. Before he was hanged, the officer said in a mocking tone, \"Dog, what is your last wish?\"
\n\n
“To wear my tefillin one last time,\" Judah replied.
\n\n
“The officer was dumbfounded. He handed Judah the tefillin . As Judah put them on, he recited the verse that is said while the tefillin are being wound around the fingers: \"Ve’eirastich li le’olam, ve’eirastich li b’tzedek uvemishpat, ub’chessed, uv’rachamim, ve’eirastich li b’emunah, v’yodaat es Hashem – I will betroth you to me forever and I will betroth you to me with righteousness and with justice and with kindness and with mercy and I will betroth you to me with fidelity, and you shall know God.\"
\n\n
It is hard for us to picture this Jew with a noose around his neck, wearing tefillin on his head and arm – but that was the scene that the entire camp was forced to watch, as they awaited the impending hanging of the Jew who had dared to break the rule against wearing tefillin .
\n\n
Even women from the adjoining camp were lined up at the barbed wire fence that separated them from the men’s camp, forced to watch this horrible sight.
\n\n
As Judah turned to watch the silent crowd, he saw tears in many people’s eyes. Even at that moment, as he was about to be hanged, he was shocked. Jews were crying! How was it possible that they still had tears left to shed? And for a stranger? Where were those tears coming from? Impulsively, in Yiddish, he called out, \" Yidden, I am the victor. Don’t you understand, I am the winner!\"
\n",

On that first Seder night, God spared our first born, and kept the Egyptians at bay while we slaughtered their \"god\" – the lamb.
\n\n
Because this is a night of special protection, the halacha states that before going to sleep, we can omit many of the regular prayers, since no extra \"protection\" is necessary!
\n\n
Shraga Simmons
\n\n
Questions
\n\n
When do you feel the safest?
\n\n
When do you feel the least safe?
\n\n
Now we sing Hallel to express our joy and Freedom!
\n\n\n",

"body": "
Woody Woodpecker
\n\n
Imagine renting a wooden cabin in the forest for your honeymoon. The place is charming. At dawn, however, woodpeckers start pounding on the roof. You can’t sleep because of the noise. It happens again at dawn every morning. What would you do? Most people would conclude the cabin experience was a failure.
\n\n
This happened to Gracie and Walter on their honeymoon. But instead of deciding that the cabin was a failure they asked, “What if it is an opportunity?” By the time they had returned from their honeymoon they found it. It became a huge commercial success. They created the cartoon character Woody Woodpecker. Walter [Lantz] was the illustrator. Gracie, the voice [after Mel Blanc and Ben Hardaway].
\n\n
When interviewed on their 50th anniversary, Gracie said, “It was the best thing that ever happened to us.” If Gracie and Walter had become upset and decided the honeymoon was a failure, it would have been a failure. But because they said it was a success, it became a success.
\n\n
Our perception shapes our reality. So, it’s not about changing careers, houses, or spouses. That’s not necessarily the path to happiness. It’s about changing our mindset. Think positive. Be positive and positive things will happen.
\n\n
Becky Johnen
\n\n
Discuss these quotes
\n\n
Nietzsche: \"He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how.
\n\n
Winston Churchill: The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.
\n\n
Viktor Frankl: We who lived in concentration camps can remember the men who walked through the huts comforting others, giving away their last piece of bread. They may have been few in number, but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms – to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way.
\n\n\n\n
Rabbi Zelig Pliskin's ways to happiness:
\n\n
I assume there is a benefit. What is good about this? (Develop the skill of reframing. Find positive ways of viewing events, situations, and circumstances.)
\n\n
I focus on solutions. What outcome am I looking for? (If a problem arises, first clarify the problem. Then ask, \"What can I do now to solve it?\")
\n\n
I let challenges develop my character. \"This too will develop my character.\" (Look at difficulties as divinely sent opportunities to upgrade who you are. What quality can you develop now with a challenge that you faced or are facing now?)
\n\n
I consistently access positive states. My awesome brain stores my best states. What state do I want for right now? (When you give names to your favorite and best moments, you will find them easier to access. Just tell your brain to access the specific state you want to experience now.)
\n\n
From a mass email!
\n\n
I woke up in the Morning, sick. I didn’t want to get out of bed. I got out of bed because I didn’t want to miss work. I arrived to work late. At 3pm I was laid off from work! At 3pm I left work to go home. On the way home my tire got flat. I went to find the spare but the spare was also flat! Someone saw me and stopped to give me a ride. That person offered me a job. I start tomorrow morning.
\n",

Tips for a great Seder
Haggadah Section: Introduction
- Read the entire Haggadah before Pesach and have an idea how you are going to lead the Seder. Try and make it as creative and entertaining as possible.
- Assign topics to present to various guests.
- Tell everyone to eat a light meal before they come. That way they won't be starving and want to hurry through the Haggadah.
- Make it fun! Have props for the plagues and you can have visuals on the table or on the wall. You can make a splitting of the red sea on the table by having a blue table cloth and the Jews running away from the evil Egyptians.
- Reward guests and kids with treats if they ask good questions
- Start the Seder with a fun intro like a parody
- Explain to everyone that they are like royalty on Seder night. Everyone gets a pillow to lean on and find a friend to pour the four cups for you!
- Use the same Haggadahs so that everyone can follow. Read the Haggadah in the language that you best understand. Share the reading by going around the table and taking turns.
Enjoy!
