What Ails Thee O Sea
Before the 2nd cup: Lornaâs reading
When Israel went forth from Egypt and the house of Jacob from a barbarous people; Judah became his sanctuary, and Israel his dominion.
The sea beheld and filled; Jordan retreated; mountains skipped like rams, and the hills like lambs.
What ailed thee, O sea, that thou didst flee? Thou, O Jordan, that though didst retreat? Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams; and ye hills like lambs?
It was from the presence of the Lord! Quake thou earth, from the presence of the God of Jacob; who turned the rock into a pool of water, the flinty rock into a fountain of waters.
