We are here because Spring is all around, the Earth is reborn, and it is a good time to celebrate with family and friends. We are here because we are Jews and friends of Jews. We are here to honor the Jewish nation’s deep historic roots and its old important memories.</p>\n\n<p>We are here to remember the old story of the liberation of the ancient Hebrews from slavery in Egypt – a great struggle for freedom and dignity. We are here because the struggle for human freedom never stops. We are here to remember all people – Jews and non-Jews – who are still struggling for their freedom.</p>\n\n<p>Let us sing: HEE-NAY MA TOV Group sings: Hee-nay ma tov oo-ma na-yeem She-vet a-kheem gam ya-khad. Wonderful is it when brothers and sisters live together in Peace.</p>\n\n<p>Let us all light the candles together: The celebration of Passover represents the perennial rebirth and survival of the Jewish people and the world of nature. "body": "<p>The Passover festival is a celebration of the spring harvest. </p>\n\n<p>Spring is a time of rebirth. The snow of winter has melted. Once again the bare trees have begun to bud. Already the flowers have started to bloom, filling the air with their scent, and our hearts with their life. Reader The fresh greens of spring serve a special purpose at this time in our Seder. As we dip these vegetables, the karpas, into salt water, a symbol of the tears of slavery, we remember all those who still suffer under the yoke of oppression. May we open our eyes, our hearts, and our hands, and help to remove suffering and want from our world.</p>\n\n<p>Baruch atah Adonai, Eloheinu Melech ha’olam, borei p’ri ha’adamah.</p>\n\n<p>We praise You, O God, Sovereign of the Universe, Who brings forth fruits from the earth. Asking questions is so fundamental that, according to the rabbis, even if one finds oneself alone on Passover, the Four Questions should be asked aloud. Traditionally, the youngest child is called upon to ask these four questions about the differences that mark this night. We encourage children to question and all who are present may ask the Four Questions. </p>\n\n<p>MA NEESH-TA-NAH HA-LIE-LAH HA-ZEH MEE-KOHL HA-LAY LOHT? Why is this night different from all other nights?</p>\n\n<p>1. SHE-B'-KHOL HA-LAY-LOHT A-NOO O-KH'-LEEN KHA-MAYTZ OO-MA- TSA. HA-LIE-LA HA-ZEH KOO-LOH MA-TSA. On all other nights we eat either bread or matsah. Why, on this night, do we eat only matsah?</p>\n\n<p>2. SHE-B'-KHOL HA-LAY-LOHT A-NOO O-KH'-LEEN SH'-AR YIH'- RAH- KOHT. HA-LIE-LA HA-ZEH MA-ROR. "body": "<p>“ <em>Rabban Gamliel used to say: Whoever has not explained the following three things on Pesach has not fulfilled his duty: Pesach, Matzah and Maror.”</em> </p>\n\n<p>What do each of these symbols mean?</p>\n\n<p><strong>Pesach.</strong> The shank bone symbolizes the sacrifice that the Jews in Egypt gave to thank God for the miracle of passing over their houses during the tenth plague in which all the Egyptian’s firstborn died. What can we learn from this sacrifice of gratitude? Just as the Jews thanked God for passing over their houses in Egypt and protecting them from the fate of the Egyptians, we can learn to thank God for the everyday miracles when we are spared from harm in the first place. Driving somewhere and arriving safely. Not getting sick. Not being hungry.</p>\n\n<p>This Passover, think about all the hidden and open miracles that God has done for you in the past year and thank Him for the incalculable number of “ordinary” moments in which He saved you from harm without you even realizing it.</p>\n\n<p>Who would like to share what they are grateful for this Passover?</p>\n\n<p><strong>Matzah</strong> is the unleavened bread that the Israelites brought with them when they left Egypt. Matzah teaches that God doesn’t need any time to prepare; He can save us in an instant. Since He can turn everything around in a moment, we should never give up hope. And when things are going well, we should remind ourselves that this too is an ongoing miracle. God is with us in this moment even when it seems like everything is just proceeding as “it should.”</p>\n\n<p>When we look at the matzah, think about the times in your life when everything turned around in a moment, seemingly without any warning or effort on your part and how God can do the same for you today, no matter what your challenges may be.</p>\n\n<p>Does anyone have a story about a miracle that has happend to them?</p>\n\n<p><strong>Maror</strong> is the bitter herb that reminds us of the tears that the Jewish people cried when they were slaves in Egypt. It teaches that when we are going through challenging, seemingly bitter times, sweetness and light and hope are just around the corner. Maror reminds us not to avoid obstacles but to instead recognize that they are a necessary part of the process of success. Without our tears and our prayers, the Jewish nation would not have been able to leave Egypt. Without the bitterness and the struggle, we don’t reach our full potential.</p>\n\n<p>When you look at the maror, think of a struggle you have gone through in the past year and how it helped you become who you are today.</p>\n\n<p>Please share with the group.</p>\n\n<p><a href=\"http://www.aish.com/h/pes/\">Pesach</a>, matzah, maror symbolize gratitude, hope and grit. With these three powerful gifts we sit around our <a href=\"http://www.aish.com/h/pes/t/si/Haggadah-Insights-to-Share-at-the-Seder.html\">Seder</a> tables and thank God for the miracle of our freedom.</p>\n",

Not physical slaves but slaves in our own mind.</p>\n\n<p><strong>What are you a slave to today? Why?</strong></p>\n\n<p>Passover signifies a transition from exiting the feeling and control of our egoistic, divisive world, and entering the feeling and control of the higher, altruistic, united world.</p>\n\n<p>The key to making this transition is to have a desire for it. That is, it is a holiday that relates to the inner process that any person who works on developing their desire to unite, love and connect with others atop their innate egoistic urges can undergo.</p>\n\n<p><strong>What represents your Promised Land? What is freedom to you?</strong></p>\n\n<p><strong>During Passover, we celebrate the story of the Jews seeking freedom in the Promised Land. But what does being free really mean to each of us?</strong></p>\n\n<p>This is the exit from Egypt we celebrate during Passover.</p>\n",

We both sing it and say it many times during the Seder. Dayenu can be an opportunity to recognize that you put forward your best efforts. Or, that you received a bountiful offering from someone else.</p>\n\n<p>On one level, Dayenu speaks about giving thanks to God for delivering the Israelites into the Promised Land. On another level, it is a message about setting limits on our expectations. It is truly the bread of affliction, bread that was not eaten in luxury. For the people driven through the desert seeking God through great hardships and difficulty it was the very stuff of life - the foundation upon which they built their future.
