Kadesh means to sanctify. Tonight, we sanctify four cups of wine. A blessing for the Czar sets up a funny joke in Fiddler on the Roof, but there are truly so many blessings in our life. Even this year, wehn we are lacking the blessing of being all together in person, it is important to stop and express gratitude. Think to yourself: What do you want to dedicate this first cup of wine to? In Jewish tradition, ritual handwashing is generally done by simply pouring water over your hands. We don't usually use soap in these rituals.</p>\n\n<p>This year, handwashing has taken on a new meaning. We have all developed our own rituals around washing our hands to keep us safe -- using warm water, scrubbing each crevice, and maybe humming a song that helps you get to the full 20-seconds. Tonight, let's take a minute to all wash our hands both ritually and literally before we eat the first bites of the seder. At a Jewish wedding, the groom traditionally breaks a glass to remember the hardships of the Jewish people, even during the happy occasion of marriage. </p>\n\n<p>We break this matzah just as our heart has so often been broken. But, we know that sometime soon, we will find the other half and mend the brokenness in celebration.
