I took your father Abraham from the other side of the river and led him through all the land of Canaan. I multiplied his family and gave him Isaac. To Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau; to Esau I gave Mount Seir to inherit, however Jacob and his children went down to Egypt.\" (Joshua 24:2)</p>\n\n<p>The covenant between the Lord and Abram states:  \"He said to Abram, your descendants will surely sojourn in a land that is not their own, and they will be enslaved and afflicted for four hundred years; however, I will punish the nation that enslaved them, and afterwards they shall leave with great wealth.\" (Genesis 15:13)</p>\n\n<p>And finally, the journey of Jacob and his sons to Egypt: \"And they said unto Pharaoh: 'To sojourn in the land are we come; for there is no pasture for thy servants' flocks; for the famine is sore in the land of Canaan. Now therefore, we pray thee, let thy servants dwell in the land of Goshen'\" (Genesis 47,4).</p>\n\n<p><u><strong>Oppression</strong></u></p>\n\n<p>But in Egypt: \"Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph. And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we. Come, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land. Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. The gaps I mean,</p>\n\n<p>No one has seen them made or heard them made,</p>\n\n<p>But at spring mending-time we find them there.</p>\n\n<p>I let my neighbour know beyond the hill;</p>\n\n<p>And on a day we meet to walk the line</p>\n\n<p>And set the wall between us once again.</p>\n\n<p>We keep the wall between us as we go.</p>\n\n<p>To each the boulders that have fallen to each.</p>\n\n<p>And some are loaves and some so nearly balls</p>\n\n<p>We have to use a spell to make them balance:</p>\n\n<p>\"Stay where you are until our backs are turned!\"</p>\n\n<p>We wear our fingers rough with handling them.</p>\n\n<p>Oh, just another kind of out-door game,</p>\n\n<p>One on a side. It comes to little more:</p>\n\n<p>There where it is we do not need the wall:</p>\n\n<p>He is all pine and I am apple orchard.</p>\n\n<p>My apple trees will never get across</p>\n\n<p>And eat the cones under his pines, I tell him.</p>\n\n<p>He only says, \"Good fences make good neighbours.\"</p>\n\n<p>Spring is the mischief in me, and I wonder</p>\n\n<p>If I could put a notion in his head:</p>\n\n<p><em>\"Why</em> do they make good neighbours? Isn't it</p>\n\n<p>Where there are cows? But here there are no cows.</p>\n\n<p>Before I built a wall I'd ask to know</p>\n\n<p>What I was walling in or walling out,</p>\n\n<p>And to whom I was like to give offence.</p>\n\n<p>Something there is that doesn't love a wall,</p>\n\n<p>That wants it down.\" I could say \"Elves\" to him,</p>\n\n<p>But it's not elves exactly, and I'd rather</p>\n\n<p>He said it for himself. They ate the Pesah because the holy one, Blessed be He “passed over” the houses of our ancestors in Egypt, as it is written in the Torah: “And You shall say, ‘It is the Passover offering for Adonai, who passed over the houses of the Israelites saving us in Egypt but struck the houses of the Egyptians.</p>\n\n<p>\"Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said unto them, Draw out and take you a lamb according to your families, and kill the passover.<strong> </strong>And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the bason, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the bason; and none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning.\" (Exodus 12:21-22)</p>\n\n<p> <em>Point to the matzah. </em> <strong>Matzah</strong></p>\n\n<p>Matzah - what does it symbolize in the Seder? There was insufficient time for the dough of our ancestors to rise when the holy one, Blessed be He was revealed to us and redeemed us, as it is written in the Torah: “And they baked the dough which they brought forth out of Egypt into matzah – cakes of unleavened bread – which had not risen, for having been driven out of Egypt they could not tarry, and they had made no provisions for themselves.”</p>\n\n<p> <em>Point to the maror.</em> <strong>Maror</strong></p>\n\n<p>Why do we eat Maror?
