We gather around the Seder table with our loved ones, telling stories of our people's miraculous passage from Egypt to Sinai, to the Promised Land. At this time of rejoicing, we also remember the great responsibility that freedom creates to harness the power of our privilege on behalf of the oppressed and marginalized. As we recite the prayers over the first cup of wine, let us also pray for and work towards the moment when all human beings will celebrate their liberation in comfort and plenty.
\n",

"body": "
Soon after Pharaoh let the Israelites leave Egypt, he regretted his decision and ordered his army to bring them back. His soldiers caught up with the Israelites by the banks of the Sea of Reeds. The frightened Israelites were trapped between the raging sea and the Egyptian chariots and troops. Naturally, they turn to their leader, Moses. The Midrash tells that Moses stands paralyzed in prayer.
\n\n
Nachshon of Aminadav, a daring Israelite, steps out into the sea with faith that G-d will part the waters. When the water almost covers Nachshon, G-d's great hand and outstretched arm part the waters. The Israelites pass through the waters, which then rush back covering the pursuing Egyptian army and their horses and chariots. Nachshon, who is the forebear of King David, teaches us that we are commanded not to wait for G-d to act but to act in the faith that G-d will support us.
\n\n
Once the Israelites safely crossed the sea, Miriam led the women in a joyful dance. All the women are now invited to join in the celebration as we sing Miriam's Song.
\n\n
SING \"MIRIAM'S SONG\" WHILE WOMEN DANCE WITH TIMBRELS
\n\n
And the women dancing with their timbrels
\nFollowed Miriam as she sang her song.
\nSing a song to the One whom we've exalted.
\nMiriam and the women danced and danced the whole night long.
\n\n
And Miriam was a weaver of unique variety.
\nThe tapestry she wove was one which sang our history.
\nWith every strand and every thread she crafted her delight.
\nA woman touched with spirit, she dances toward the light.
\n\n
Chorus
\n\n
When Miriam stood upon the shores and gazed across the sea
\nThe wonder of this miracle she soon came to believe.
\nWhoever thought the sea would part with an outstretched hand
\nAnd we would pass to freedom and march to the promised land.
\n\n
Chorus
\n\n
And Miriam the prophet took her timbrel in her hand
\nAnd all the women followed her just as she had planned.
\nAnd Miriam raised her voice in song
\nShe sang with praise and might.
\nWe've just lived through a miracle
\nWe're going to dance tonight.
\n\n
Chorus
\n",

History advances at a dizzying pace. Man has conquered space but not his own heart. Have we learned nothing? It seems so. Witness the wars that rage all over the globe, the acts of terror that strike down the innocent, the children who are dying of hunger and disease in Africa and Asia every day. Why is there so much hatred in the world? Why is there so much indifference to hatred, to suffering, to the anguish of others?
\n\n
I love Passover because for me it is a cry against indifference, a cry for compassion.
\n",

We recommit ourselves to the vision of a world filled with peace and justice for all. We work for a world where \"nation shall not lift-up sword against nation nor study war anymore.\" We work for a world where people are not treated differently because of their race, their religion, their gender, their age, their marital status, their skin color, the people they love, their profession or their politics. We work for a world that affirms the inherent worth and dignity of every person on our planet and assures basic human rights for everyone, everywhere. Like Nachshon standing at the shore of the Red Sea, we are not waiting for a miracle but rather proceeding with faith that G-d will support us and give us the strength and resolve to work together to heal the world.
\n\n
We close our Seder by saying, \"L'Shanah Haba'ah B'Yerushalyim\", which means \"Next Year in Jerusalem.\" For centuries, this declaration expressed the Jewish people's goal to return to our homeland. Even after the founding of the State of Israel in 1948, these words still resonate with us. We all have our own personal aspirations and dreams that we are striving for. As we conclude our Seder, may we have the strength and the will to continue working toward our personal Jerusalem and toward a world where all people will live in shalom -- peace, safety and freedom.
\n",
