They had no time to prepare food and no time to allow their dough to rise into puffy bread. They had only enough time to make a flat, cracker-like bread called matzah. They hastily tied the matzah to their backs and ran from their homes.</p>\n\n<p>The people had not travelled far before Pharaoh commanded his army to chase after them and bring them back to Egypt. The Jews dashed forward, but stopped when they reached a large sea. The sea was too big to swim across. Frightened that Pharaoh’s men would soon reach them, the people prayed to God, and a miracle occurred. The sea opened up. Two walls of water stood in front of them and a dry, sandy path stretched between the walls. The Jews ran across. Just as they reached the other side, the walls of water fell and the path disappeared. The sea now separated the Jews from the land of Egypt. It also has a hole at the top that would allow it to be strung, officials said in a press release.</p>\n\n<p>Neshama Spielman, who is now 12 years old, said she was participating in the<a href=\"https://templemount.wordpress.com/\">Temple Mount Sifting Project</a>, a volunteer-based dig, when she found the unusual object.</p>\n\n<p>“While I was sifting, I came across a piece of pottery that was different from others I had seen, and I immediately thought that maybe I had found something special,” she said in a statement. “It’s amazing to find something thousands of years old from ancient Egypt all the way here in Jerusalem!”</p>\n\n<p>Dr. Gabriel Barkay, co-founder and co-director of the Temple Mount Sifting Project, speculated that the amulet turned up in Jerusalem because of Egypt’s more than 300-year rule over the area during the late Bronze Age.</p>\n\n<p>Exactly when this amulet was created isn’t known, however.</p>\n\n<p>Though Thutmose III ruled over Egypt from 1479 B.C. to 1425 B.C., it wasn’t unusual for items bearing his name to be produced later on, Barkay said in the statement.</p>\n\n<p>“Objects bearing the name of Thutmose III continued to be produced in Egypt long after the time of his reign, reflecting the significance and lasting impression of this king,” he said. “Thutmose III referred to himself as ‘the one who has subdued a thousand cities.’”</p>\n\n<p>Zachi Dvira, co-founder and co-director of the Temple Mount Sifting Project, said researchers compared the amulet to an identical one that was previously found in northern Israel and bore the name of King Seti I. We can find an enlightened slave whose spirit is free, and a free man with the mentality of a slave.</p>\n\n<p><br />\nTrue freedom is that uplifted spirit by which the individual - as well as the nation as a whole - is inspired to remain faithful to his inner essence, to the spiritual attribute of the Divine image within him. It is that quality that enables us to feel our life has value and meaning.</p>\n\n<p>A person with a slave mentality lives his life and harbors emotions that are rooted not in his own essential spiritual nature, but in that which is attractive and good in the eyes of others. In this way, he is ruled by others, whether physically or by social conventions.</p>\n\n<p><br />\nVanquished, in exile, we were oppressed for hundreds of years by cruel masters. But our inner soul is imbued with the spirit of freedom. Were it not for the wondrous gift of the Torah, bestowed upon us when we left Egypt to eternal freedom, the long exile would have reduced our spirits to the mindset of a slave. But on the festival of freedom, we openly demonstrate that we feel ourselves to be free in our very essence.
