מַעֲשֶׂה בְּרַבִּי אֱלִיעֶזֶר וְרַבִּי יְהוֹשֻעַ וְרַבִּי אֶלְעָזָר בֶּן עֲזַרְיָה וְרַבְּי עֲקִיבָא וְרַבִּי טַרְפוֹן שֶהָיוּ מְסֻבִּין בִּבְנֵי בְרַק, וְהָיוּ מְסַפְּרִים בִּיצִיאַת מִצְרַיִם כָּל אוֹתוֹ הַלַּיְלָה עַד שֶׁבָּאוּ תַלְמִידֵיהֶם וְאָמְרוּ לָהֶם: רַבּוֹתֵינוּ, הִגִּיעַ זְמַן קְרִיאַת שְׁמַע שֶׁל שַׁחֲרִית.

Ma-aseh b'rabi Eli-ezer, v'rabi Y'hoshua, v'rabi Elazar ben azaryah, v'rabi Akiva, v'rabi Tarfon, she-hayu m'subin bivnei vrak, v'hayu m'sap'rim bitzi-at mitzrayim, kol oto halaylah, ad sheba-u talmideihem v'am'ru lahem. Raboteinu, higi-a z'man k'ri-at sh'ma, shel shacharit.

It once happened that Rabbi Eliezer, Rabbi Joshua, Rabbi Elazar ben Azaryah, Rabbi Akiva and Rabbi Tarfon were reclining at the seder table in B'nei Brak. They stayed up all night discussing the Exodus, and eventually their students came and said to them: "Rabbis, it is time to recite the morning Shema.

Sing:

I dreamed last night I was sittin’ at a seder
And who’d I see, but Akivah and Tarphon
And there they sat, tellin’ ’bout the trip from Egypt
And their story just went on and on and on (and on and on)

And their students all said “Get Up!
Get Up! You’re missin’ the Sh’ma.”

And how are ya, ben Azaryah?
Brand new day. Oy vey! You stayed up ‘til dawn.
“Get Up! Get Up! Get Up! You schmuck!
Get Up! You’re missing the Sh’ma.”
