My Father was a Wandering Aramean

by Jill Maller-Kesselman

DIRECTIONS; We lower the wine cup and continue with the recitation of the traditional Midrash or Rabbinic discussion of the Passover Exodus story as recorded in the Torah, beginning first with the threat to Israel from Lavan and then the threat from Pharaoh

V'he sh'ahm-da

by Jill Maller-Kesselman

Leader: We now lift up our cups of wine and cover the matzah, as we sing the following and recall God's promise to Abraham, emphasizing eternal divine watchfulness. The Answer

by Jill Maller-Kesselman

LEADER:   We will now answer the four questions and begin to tell the story of our enslavement in Egypt ASSEMBLED:  Once we were slaves to Pharoah in Egypt, and the Lord,  in His goodness and mercy, brought us forth from that land, with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. LEADER:  Had He not brought our ancestors out of Mitzrayim, we and our children and our children's children would still be enslaved to Pharoh in Mitzrayim and deprived of liberty. ASSEMBLED:  ...

Miriam's Cup

by Rachel Schulties

What is a Miriam’s Cup? A Miriam’s Cup is a new ritual object that is placed on the seder table beside the Cup of Elijah. Miriam’s Cup is filled with water. It serves as a symbol of Miriam’s Well, which was the source of water for the Israelites in the desert. Putting a Miriam’s Cup on your table is a way of making your seder more inclusive. It is also a way of drawing attention to the importance of Miriam and...

Introduction

Havdallah (If the Seder falls on a Saturday night, after sunset we say Havdallah, before lighting the candles)

by Jill Maller-Kesselman

LEADER: When a Seder falls on Saturday night, the end of Shabbat, we say Havdalah before lighting the festival candles. The havdalah candle is comprised of many wicks braided to come together to create a large, single flame - much larger, brighter and warmer than if there...
