Yachatz

Haggadah Section: Yachatz

Take the middle matzah and break it into two, one piece larger than the other.

The larger piece is set aside to serve as Afikoman. This is traditionally hidden, by the leader of the Seder for the children to find.

The smaller piece is put back, between the two matzot. This smaller piece, along with the top matzah is what will be used for the “Motzi-Matzah” and “Korech”

Matzah is known as the "Bread of Affliction." It is eaten for the duration of the 8 day Passover holiday in commemoration of the unleavened bread the Israelites ate while fleeing from Egypt. Matzah is eaten on Passover as way to remember the suffering of Israelites during their escape from Egypt

* 400 years enslaved in Egypt

* 56 days fleeing from Egypt to Mount Sinai living off of Matzah

"Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable...Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals."

-Martin Luther King, Jr.

What groups of people are fleeing from poverty today? Where are they coming from? Where are they going?
