"body": "
Passover is a unique moment in time when the present fuses with both past and future. So many memories, so much shared history, and so much yet evolving and growing and changing.
\n\n
Tonight, we fuse Seder’s past, indeed our family history, with our future, our grandparents with our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, together with dear friends and loved ones. This Seder is fused with our Seder’s past: beginning with a Seder created in honor of Jeffrey’s Bar Mitzvah, in 1984, moving to a pre-school friendly seder created by Jan in the late 1980’s, a feminist Seder created by Tante Sue for the 1990’s, our Haggadah's have been illustrated by a pre-school Rachel, a grade school Andrew, catered by Grammy Ida, even as she lay in her hospital bed, unable to participate, and enlivened by Tina and Faith’s rendition of “Who Knows One?” We have celebrated near and far, from Berkeley to Bern, from Beverly Hills to the Del Rey Yacht Club, from Kyoto to Encino. We have celebrated atop Mountains and in the desert. We have marked this moment indoors and outdoors.
\n\n
We Frankels, Blakeneys, Millers, Rounds and Schau’s share plenty of history, and this holiday brings with it memories, wonderful and bittersweet, sad and even chilling. There were years when we were not all together, and years when we lifted our voices while praying to defy the shadows of death. Yet there remain memories that delight our senses, celebrate our triumphs and even our personal liberation, and infuse us with hope for a future made brighter by these memories.
\n\n
This night, then, let us embrace those memories and join together now.
\n\n
In telling and re-telling, drawing upon Seder’s past and weaving in new stories and new thoughts, let us give our children and grandchildren, our family and dear friends, the promise of a dream for the sweetest gift of all: the gift of renewal, the gift of freedom and the gift of liberation from slavery in every way.
\n",
