But in the Passover story, there are FIVE very important women who made incredible contributions to the journey of the Israelites, freeing the Israelites from Slavery:
\n\n
Shipharh and Puah, the two Hebrew midwives, who defied Pharoah’s orders to kill all Hebrew baby boys and actually hid and saved them.
\n\n
Exodus 1:17, p. 114 JPS “The midwives, fearing God, did not do as the king had told them, they let the boys live”
\n\n
Yocheved, Moses’ mother, who hid baby Moses for three months from the Egyptians, and built a miniature Ark (Teyvat) to float the baby to safety.
\n\n
Exodus 2:2, p. 114 JPS
\n\n
Bit Ya, Pharaoh’s daughter who boldly ignored her father’s decree to kill all Hebrew baby boys, and she found Moses’ Ark (Basket) floating in the Nile.
\n\n
Exodus 2:6, p. 114 “She took pity on it and said, “This must be a Hebrew Child” and then she named the baby boy Moses and raised him in the Palace.” No one knows Moses’ real name. The only name for Moses that we know (To Draw Out), is the name that Pharaoh’s Daughter named the baby boy.
\n\n
Later God said to Pharaoh’s Daughter, “Moses was not your son, yet you called him your son. You too, are not My daughter, yet I will call you My daughter, Bat Ya, the daughter of God.”
\nAccording to legend, Bitya never died. She joined a small and celebrated group who ascended to heaven while still alive.
\n\n
Miriam, Moses’ sister who arranged for Moses’ own birth mother Yocheved to serve as Moses’ nurse in the Palace. Miriam later became the first prophetess.
\n\n
Exodus 2:7-9, p. 114 JPS
\n\n
http://breakingmatzo.com/over-the-top/the-role-of-women-in-the-exodus-story/
\n\n\n",

We have drunk the first cup of wine and dipped our greens in salt water. We now focus on the Matzah which symbolizes not only the affliction of slavery, but also the potential for transformation.
\n\n
ha lachma anya : This is the bread of affliction our ancestors ate in the land of Egypt.
\n\n
As we go through the seder, the matzoh will be trans formed. It will cease to be the bread of affliction and it will become the bread of hope, courage, faith, and possibility.
\n\n
Reader:
\n\n
Each person is invited to hold a piece of matzoh to mindfully feel its weight, notice its color, its shape, and texture.
\n\n
Resting the matoh on our open palms, we remember that the Passover story teaches that oppression and suffering result from fear and the unwillingness to open one's heart to the pain and the experiences of others.
\n\n
It was fear that brought about the enslavement of the Israelites and it was the hardening of the heart that kept the Israelites, the Egyptians and the Pharaoh in bondage,. From fear and a hardened heart come vilolence, anguish and grief.
\n\n
One person lifts the plate of three matzot. We take a moment of silence and say\"
\n\n
Ha lachma anya - This is the bread of affliction our ancestors ate in the land of Egypt.
\n\n
We return to silence and each raise up a piece of matoh
\nWe maintain silence while all at the same time, break our matzot in half.
\n\n
We listen to the sound of the bread of affliction cracking open. As we hold the two pieces in our hands, se set an intention to break open and soften our hearts;
\n\n
We lace the matzoh back on the plate and continue the prayer:
\n\n
Let all who are hungry come and eat.
\n Let all who are in need join us in this Festival of liberation.
\n May each of us, may all of us, find our homes.
\nMay each of each, may all of us be free.
\n",
