Miriam's Cup
One of the miracles for which we say dayenu is Miriam's well. The story says that Moses' sister, Miriam, was followed through the desert by a magical well, filled with the waters of life to sustain the wanderers. Perhaps it really was magic. Perhaps it was just good luck that the Jewish people always found water when they needed it. Or, perhaps, Miriam worked very, very hard to find water for her people, and the fruits of her labor only seemed like magic to the people who benefited. There is a special cup on the table, Miriam's cup. We fill it from our own cups of water, in thanks for the labor of women that has so often gone unnoticed and unappreciated in the stories we tell.
