We light the candles to welcome the holiday. Together we say:

ברוך אתה יי אלהינו מלך העולם אשר קדשנו במצותיו וצונו להדליק נר של יום טוב

Baruch atah Adonai Eloheinu melech ha'olam asher kid'shanu b'mitzvotav v'tzivanu l'hadlik ner shel Yom Tov.

We praise you Adonai, our god, creator of the universe, who makes us holy with mitzvot and commands us to kindle the holiday lights.

The holiday candles remind us that Passover is a special and holy time.

We then give thanks for the gift of life and this happy time together:

ברוך אתה יי אלהינו מלך העולם שהחינו וקימנו והגיענו לזמן הזה

Baruch atah Adonai Eloheinu melech ha'olam shehecheyanu, v'kiya'manu v'higianu lazman ha'zeh

We praise you Adonai, our god, creator of the universe, for giving life, sustaining us, and helping us reach this moment.

Passover is a most special time of year.

We celebrate with family and friends so dear.

"Shehecheyanu" - that's what we say

For bringing us to this day!
