Hands and Action Ur'chatz
In Judaism, hands are important. Our hands invoke Aaron's Three-fold blessing, a la Mr. Spock in Star Trek. Hands chisel the Ten Commandments, and part the waters of the Red Sea. The Yad, or hand, points our way through our Torah, and it is with our yadayim (hands) that we build communities and comfort those we meet along the way.
Now, we wash our hands without a blessing. This calls attention to the hands themselves. On our journey, there are moments of reflection. But there are also times to act. Our hands become the avenue for action. Let us recognize the good that comes from our hands.
