EXPLAINING YAHATZ
WE BREAK THE MIDDLE MATZAH IN TWO. HALF WILL BE HIDDEN AWAY AND RETRIEVED BY THE KIDS FOR THE AFIKOMEN, TO BE EATEN AS DESSERT. IT IS THE LAST FOOD WE TASTE AT THE SEDER. THE OTHER HALF WILL BE EATEN WHEN WE SAY THE TWO BERAKHOT FOR MATZAH BEFORE EATING THE MEAL:
A Custom among the Jews of Tunisia -- While breaking the middle matzah we say: "This is how God split the Red Sea so that the Israelites might pass through it on dry land."
