We retell the story of our ances...", "user_image": "", "user_image_original": "", "body": "<p>​</p>\n\n<p><strong>The Story of Passover</strong></p>\n\n<p><strong>Reader 1</strong><br />\nEvery year we sit at a table<br />\nFit for a king and queen.<br />\nWe retell the story of our ancestors,<br />\nWho were slaves to Pharaoh, so mean. </p>\n\n<p><strong>Reader 2</strong><br />\nThe Jews they worked in Egypt.<br />\nNo rest, no time to play.<br />\nThey built the city, they built the palace.<br />\nOh, how they wished to run away! </p>\n\n<p><strong>Reader 1</strong><br />\n\"We need some help,\" they cried to God.<br />\nGod heard their cries and made a plan.<br />\nGod needed a partner to lead the people.<br />\nMoses was the one who would lead the clan.</p>\n\n<p><strong>Reader 2</strong><br />\nWhen Moses was born, his mommy knew<br />\nShe had to save him, so her plan grew.<br />\nShe used a <em>teva</em> for a boat,<br />\nAnd down the river Moses did float.</p>\n\n<p><strong>Reader 3</strong><br />\nLucky for us he was saved by Pharaoh's daughter,<br />\nWhen she was bathing in the water.<br />\nShe found little Moses, took him into her home,<br />\nAnd cared for him like he was her own.</p>\n\n<p><strong>Reader 4</strong><br />\nWhen Moses grew up big and strong,<br />\nHe found out where he really belonged<br />\nAnd knew he had to make right from wrong!</p>\n\n<p><strong>Reader 1</strong><br />\nGod spoke to Moses from a bush that was burning<br />\nAnd told him that the tide was turning.<br />\nMoses with God's help would be<br />\nThe leader who would set the Jews free!<br />\nHe went to Pharaoh and made his plea,<br />\nBut Pharaoh just laughed and laughed with glee.</p>\n\n<p><strong>Let My People Go</strong> (<em>song</em>)<br />\n<br />\nWhen Israel was in Egypt Land…<br />\nLet my people go! <br />\nOppressed so hard they could not stand…<br />\nLet my people go!</p>\n\n<p><strong>Pharaoh Doesn't Pay</strong></p>\n\n<p>(<em>Sung to the tune of \"</em>I've Been Working on the Railroad<em>.\" </em><em>This could be an action song where everyone acts out the activity on each line.)</em><br />\nI've been working on these buildings; Pharaoh doesn't pay. (<em>Shake heads no</em>)<br />\nI've been doing what he tells me, like making bricks from clay. (<em>Form bricks with hands</em>)<br />\nCan't you hear the master calling? \"Hurry up, make a brick!\" (<em>Hold hands to mouth as if shouting</em>)<br />\nCan't you hear the master calling? His voice just makes me sick! (<em>Hold stomach</em>)<br />\nOh, is this a mess (<em>Repeat and hold hands to heads</em>)<br />\nOh, this is a mess for Jews, for Jews.<br />\nOh, this is a mess (<em>Repeat</em>)<br />\nOh, this is a mess for Jews.</p>\n\n<p><strong>Reader 2</strong><br />\nWhat do you think Pharaoh said back to him? <br />\nNo, No, No, I will not let you go! (<em>Stamp feet</em>)<br />\nNo, No, No, I will not let you go!<br />\n(<em>Everyone says with determination!</em>)</p>\n\n<p><strong>Take Us Out of Egypt</strong><br />\n<em>(Sung to the tune of \"Take Me Out to the Ballgame\")<br />\n(Borrowed from Ron Wolfson's </em>The Art of Jewish Living: The Passover Seder<em>)</em><br />\nTake us out of Egypt.<br />\nFree us from slavery.<br />\nBake us some matzot in haste.<br />\nDon't worry about flavor, give no thought<br />\nto taste.<br />\nOh it's rush, rush, rush to the Reed Sea<br />\nIf we don't cross it's a shame! <br />\nIt's the 10 Plagues down and you're out<br />\nAt the Pesach history game!</p>\n\n<p><strong>Reader 3</strong><br />\nMoses tried really hard to make Pharaoh see<br />\nThat his people just had to be free.<br />\nAnd God sent 10 plagues to strengthen the plea.<br />\nSo, Pharaoh said, \"You may go!<br />\nTake your people and leave today.\"</p>\n\n<p><strong>Reader 4</strong><br />\nWe had so little time to gather and pack our things.<br />\nWe put our possessions on carts, in a basket or sack.<br />\nWe hurried so fast across the parted sea.<br />\nThe Jewish people at last were free.<br />\n<em>(Have the children go around the room and name one thing that they would bring, perhaps explain why, and then pretend to put it in a bag. They could whisper itsecretively to their neighbor, as well.)<br />\n(Several \"crossing the sea\" activities could be done here, such as each participant jumping over a blue plastic streamer that two people are holding and wiggling.) </em></p>\n\n<p><strong>Reader 5</strong><br />\nWe have lots of fours on Pesach: Four cups of wine, four kinds of children, four names for Pesach, four questions to ask and four times Moses went to Pharaoh to ask for our freedom.<br />\nHow many symbols are found on your seder plate? Here is where we drink the first of our four cups.<br />\nWine is the symbol of our joy as we celebrate Pesach. Centuries ago, our ancestors heard the call of freedom. We raise our cups in gratitude to God for the freedom we live each and every day.<br />\n(<em>All hold up their cups and say</em>:)<br />\n<em>Baruch atah Adonai, Eloheinu Melech ha-olam, borei p'ri hagafen.</em></p>\n\n<p><strong>Reader 6</strong><br />\nThe <em>karpas</em> (greens) remind us of spring and the burst of beauty in nature this time of the year. The salt water we will dip the <em>karpas</em> in, is a reminder of the tears that our ancestors shed when they were still slaves.<br />\nTogether we say our prayer for greens grown from the earth:<br />\n<em>Baruch atah Adonai, Eloheinu Melech ha-olam, borei p'ri ha-adamah.</em><br />\nDip and eat the <em>karpas</em>.<br />\n(<em>At each table, one person should break the middle matzah and hide the bigger piece.
