Colored Ribbons

Haggadah Section: Urchatz

Colored Ribbons

Adapted from the Pride Freedom Seder Haggadah 2012

These ribbons are a symbol of the full spectrum of our Jewish Community, from Orthodox to Reconstructionist and from Ethiopian to Burmese Jews. They are a reminder of the red and oink ribbons we wear in hopes of finding cures for AIDS and breast cancer. They evoke visions of the covenant between God and Noah. They are the colors of the garden, the colors of our inner lives, the common thread that binds us all together. They are also a celebration of the love that gay people have for flash and color. We bless these ribbons as we would bless any rainbow.

Baruch ata Adonai Eloheinu Ruach Ha-olam , zokhair ha-brit vene'eman brito vekayam bema'amaro.

Blessed are you, Spirit of the  Universe,  Who remembers the covenant, is faithful to your covenant, and keeps your promise.

Please take a length of ribbon from your seder plate and hand it to someone else as a gift and a blessing. Tie this ribbon on somewhere, to a finger, through a buttonhole, in your hair,  as a sign of our unity and a token of our celebration. As you tie the ribbon on tell the recipient what you think that color might stand for.
