"body": "<p>The entire story of the Haggadah is contained in the Seder plate (קערה ke'ara); everything on it symbolizes an aspect of Exodus:</p>\n\n<ul>\n\t<li>Zeroa (זרוֹע)a roasted bone, evokes the offering made at the Temple in ancient times.</li>\n\t<li>Beitza (ביצה), a boiled egg, symbolizes the circle of life and death.</li>\n\t<li>Maror (מָרוֹר), a bitter herb, reminds us of the bitterness of enslavement.</li>\n\t<li>Charoset (חֲרֽוֹסֶת), a mixture of fruit, nuts, wine and spices, represents the mortar our ancestors used to build the structures of Mitzrayim</li>\n\t<li>Karpas (כַּרְפַּס), a green vegetable, symbolizes hope and renewal.</li>\n\t<li>Chazeret (חזרת), the bitter herb for the “sandwich” we eat later, following the custom established by Hillel the Elder, as a reminder that our ancestors “ate matzah and bitter herbs together”</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to those 6 traditional foods, you'll notice that we also have chocolate and an orange:</p>\n\n<p>Fair Trade certified chocolate is grown under standards that prohibit the use of forced labor. It is placed on the seder plate to remind us that forced labor is still with us today. The Fair Trade movement promotes economic partnerships based on equality, justice and sustainable environmental practices. We have a role in the process by making consumer choices that promote economic fairness for those who produce our products around the globe.</p>\n\n<p>I'll let Susannah Heschel explain the orange...</p>\n",

"body": "<p><strong>Reader 1:</strong> Long before the struggle upward begins, there is tremor in the seed. Self-protection cracks, roots reach down and grab hold. The seed swells, and tender shoots push up toward light. This is karpas: spring awakening growth. A force so tough it can break stone.</p>\n\n<p><strong>Reader 2:</strong> Why do we dip karpas into salt water?</p>\n\n<p><strong>Reader 1:</strong> At the beginning of this season of rebirth and growth, we recall the tears of our ancestors in bondage.</p>\n\n<p><strong>Reader 2:</strong> And why should salt water be touched by karpas?</p>\n\n<p><strong>Reader 1:</strong> To remind us that tears stop. Even after pain. Spring comes.</p>\n\n<p> <em>Take a bit of greenery, dip it into the salt-water, and recite the following blessing:</em> </p>\n\n<p><strong>בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יי אֱלֹהֵינוּ מֶלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם, בּוֹרֵא פְּרִי הָאֲדָמָה</strong></p>\n\n<p>Baruch Atah Adonai, Eloheinu melech ha’olam, borei p’ri ha’adamah.</p>\n\n<p>Blessed are You, Lord, our God, Ruler of the universe, who creates the fruit of the earth.</p>\n",
